2012 WELCOME

The executive of the Gold River Rod and Gun Club welcomes you to what we hope will be an exciting year of events and activities around the club. There are several events already planned and several more being discussed so we wanted to get the word out early so you can start marking your calendar.

One of the biggest changes we have decided to try this year is to change the meeting day to the second Monday in the month. We are hoping that this will increase attendance to these meetings. The next meeting will be on Monday February 13th, 2012 at 7:30pm. If the second Monday coincides with a long weekend we will be moving the meeting to the next Monday. As with previous years no meetings will be held in July or August. We will be sending out reminders and keep information posted on our website.

Events already scheduled that occur on a regular basis are;
· Sporting Clay Shoots on the second Saturday of the month. 9am registration with 10am start. Contact Morris McNally for more info.
· Kid’s archery time to be announced in the near future.

Special events being planned for 2012 include;
· “Big Buck” judging and pot-luck dinner – March 3rd
· “Road Rally” – April
· Public Open House followed by Members’ potluck dinner / social – May
· Family Fishing Day at Star Lake – June 17th (Father’s Day)
· Vancouver Island Championships Sporting Clay Shoot – June
· AGM with members’ dinner – December 10th

We encourage all members to come out and enjoy the Club and participate in activities and meetings. Feel free to contact members of the executive at any time for more information on what’s happening, or if you have any suggestions. Also, if you haven’t paid your dues for 2012 yet, call Harold Kerpan and he’ll be happy to get you signed up ASAP.

We plan on sending you a short update each month with confirmed dates for activities happening that month, as well as the minutes from the previous months meeting.

A motion was passed at our last meeting to move our regular General Meetings from Thursdays to Mondays (same time and place).

The next meeting is on Monday, February 13^th at 7:30 at the Club House.

Winter Prawn Closures

Areas 25-1, 25-8 and 25-16 will be closed to prawning from Jan 1 to March 31 st. This includes All of Tahsis Inlet and the mouth of the Gold River/Berman to Houston River.

Halibut Closure

Fishery Notice

Throughout the 2011 recreational halibut fishing season, the Department has reviewed in-season monthly catch estimates for the recreational halibut fishery.
Catch information indicates that the recreational share of the Total Allowable Catch will be
achieved in August.
Therefore, recreational fishing for halibut under the BC tidal water licence will close effective 23:59 hours September 5, 2011 for the balance of the year.
2012 management actions will be developed this fall and announcements will be made in early 2012.
